Srikakulam district added another new additional superintendent of police (ASP) particularly to deal with crimes recently. For the last several years this post has been vacant due to shortage of officers. New ASP K Vara Prasada Rao assumed charge on June 1 and has understood the crime situation in Srikakulam to some extent.
In a special interview with The Hans India he explained about his plan of action to reduce crime in the district with the support and guidance of superintendent of police (SP), J. Brahma Reddy.Regarding money related crimes: We have deployed police teams in mufti at all banks to maintain vigil on attention diverting gangs, thefts following persons who drew amount from the banks, and to prevent bag lifting gangs.
We are planning to conduct surprise checks on auto-rickshaws and other private transport vehicles to catch criminals.
Auto accidents: To control auto-rickshaw related accidents we are mainly concentrating to prevent drunken drive, overload, speed and rash driving and use of loud speakers in autos. Teams led by circle and sub-inspectors (CI and SIs) are conducting vehicle checks during peak hours at all important junctions.
