The Lok Sabha is composed of representatives of the people chosen by direct election on the basis of adult suffrage. Lok Sabha is the Lower House of India's bicameral Parliament. The maximum strength of the House is envisaged by the Constitution is 552. Up to 530 members to represent the States, up to 20 members to represent the Union Territories and not more than 2 members of the Anglo-Indian Community to be nominated by the President, if, in his opinion, that community is not adequately represented in the House. Rajya Sabha is known as the Council of States. Rajya Sabha is the Upper House of India's bicameral Parliament. Article 80 of the Constitution lays down the maximum strength of Rajya Sabha as 250. Out of which 12 members are nominated by the President of India and 238 members are representatives of the States and two Union Territories (Delhi and Puducherry). The present strength of the Rajya Sabha, however, is 245. Out of which 233 are representatives of the States and Union Territories of Delhi and Puducherry and 12 are nominated by the President. The members nominated by the President are persons having special knowledge or practical experience in respect of such matters as literature, science, arts and social service.
