Sir Ernest Rutherford was the first to propose that the nucleus is positively charged in 1911.

JJ Thomson earlier in his ‘plum pudding model’ has discovered that electrons and negatively charged and knowing that an atom is electrically neutral.

Rutherford in his experiment concluded that the mass of an atom is positively charged.

Hans Geiger was his research partner and Ernest Marsden helped him in his experiment as well.
