Paul Ricouer. He refers to human quest for knowledge and understanding. Human being is ceaselessly striving for acquiring more knowledge and greater understanding of the phenomenon occurring outside and inside him/her. In this process he/she is improving one’s own self understanding. Reflections on external and internal realities making him more acquainted with the intricate structures of his own being.

Especially in philosophy, when we deal with the questions like existence of god, rebirth, liberation etc, we are somehow trying to understand the very own self. Thus every understanding is a self understanding.
