The first factory of jute industry was planted in place of Risra near Kolkata in 1859. West Bengal is the first place in India's jute industry. Of the total 114 jute factories in the country, 102 are located here. Here, these factories have been established in the 97 km long box in width of 3 to 4 km on both sides of the Hooghly River.
