HEY USER....

Cornelius van Niel showed that oxygen evolved in photosynthesis is from water and not carbon dioxide.
He conducted experiments on purple and green sulphur bacteria, in which H2S is the hydrogen donor and not H2O. In the presence of H2S, sulphur or sulphate is released as the oxidation product depending on the organism.
Whereas in green plants, H2O is used as a hydrogen donor and oxygen is given out as an oxidation product. Hence, van Niel inferred that oxygen is released from water and not carbon dioxide....
