William Finch stated that 5000 to 20,000 men work for 40 years to build the palace of forty pillars at Allahabad in Akbar's time.
William Finch, an English merchant of East India Company visited India during the reign of Jahangir-the son of Akbar. He was much influenced by the Mughal architecture and began to record the same. He gave us the description of Hall of Pillars of Forty or Chahel Satun which is located inside the Allahabad Fort.

Many palaces were made in Isfahan, at the time of the Safavid era.
However, very few of them are still there.
Those that have survived have also been damaged. The Chehel Sotun Palace, which is a palace with 40 pillars, is situated in a large beautiful garden.
The real garden was much larger than what it is now.
The garden at present is about 60,000 square meters in size.
The area of the palace is roughly 2,125 square meters.
Also, there is a huge pool near the entrance of the palace.
The first part of the palace was made at the time of Shah Abbas.
The imposing mirror ornamented Eivan and the front porch was made at the time of Shah Abbas the second. It was usually used as a palace of reception.
All royal guests and foreign visitors were kept entertained at the palace.
There are three layers of plaster works in some areas of the palace that were made by on the instructions of various rulers.
The palace took a long time to get built and was formally opened in 1647.
It was later restored by the last Safavid king. It has some pre- Islamic architecture details.
For example, like the Persepolis, the palace is on a higher platform than the ground floor. Chehel translates to forty. It was a large number in those days.
Also, there are twenty wooden pillars that are there on the front porch.
These wooden pillars reflect in the pool that is situated in front of the palace.
The bright reflected pillars and the twenty pillars are the reason why people call it "The Palace of Forty Pillars".
