Nannayabhatta (1022–1063AD – also referred to as Nannaya), started to translate the Sanskrit Mahabharata into Telugu on the request of the East Chalukya king Rajaraja Narendra. This marks the beginning of Telugu literature, which has yet been uncovered.
Mahabharat was originally written by Veda Vyasa in Sanskrit. Three poets first successfully translated the greatest epic into Telugu and are also famously known as Kavitrayam. They are Sri Nannaya Bhattarakulu(or Bhattu), Sri Tikkana Somayaji, Sri Yerra Pragada.
