Vishnushastri Chiplunkar translated Arabian Nights to Marathi.
He was a Marathi writer whose writings had a great deal of influence on modern Marathi prose style. He worked as a school teacher in government schools from 1872 to 1879. In 1880, along with Gopal Ganesh Agarkar and Bal Gangadhar Tilak he founded the newspapers - Kesari in Marathi and Mahratta in English. He was a co-founder of the New English School in Pune. Patriotically inclined education was provided here.
