Who triggered the Moroccon crisis and why ? (question from first world war)
Answers
The First Moroccan Crisis (Mar 1905 to May 1906) was one in a series of events that lead to the start of WWI in 1914. European powerhouse countries were all trying to make a play for African nations. When Kaiser Wilhelm II of Germany visited in 1905, it worsened Germany’s (already horrible) relationship with France and the United Kingdom. The Kaiser promoted the independence of Moroccan whereas the French wanted to dictate Morocco’s governmental structure. Tensions rose between Germany and France but eventually a “truce” was reached in 1906. The crisis left the Kaiser feeling humiliated and France/UK feeling empowered.
After this crisis there were still several more events that contributed to the start of WWI (i.e., Italo-Turkish War, Balkan Wars, etc.).
