Extra information on Annie Besant:
Annie Besant was one of the British socialists, women's right activists, theosophists, writers and lastly the orators. She supported Indian self - rule as well as Irish self - rule. She belonged to an Irish family of Clapham, London. She was born on 1st of October, 1847 in Clapham, London to the parents of a middle - class family and who were of Irish origin. Her heritage was her pride and she was one of the people who supported Irish self - rule. At the age of five years, her father died which in turn left her family almost out of money. However, her lovely mother managed the situation by running a somewhat boarding house for the boys studying in Harrow School. Even her mother failed to take care of her for long and unwillingly gave her to her friend Ellen Marryat. Marryat was a good person and took care of Annie well. She ensured that Annie got proper education. She was married to a clergyman Frak Besant at the age of about 20 years.
