During the Swadeshi Movement, Mahatma Gandhi designed a tricolour flag in Bengal. This was known as the Swaraj Flag.


The main features of the Swaraj flag are as follows:


1. Tricolour flag containing green, red and white.


2. 8 lotuses----referring to 8 British India provinces

Crescent moon----referring to the Hindu- Muslim community.


3. Centre: Spinning wheel.


4. Became a symbol of defiance during marches and Gandhi's plan of self help.
