Lemuel Gulliver hailed from Nottinghamshire in England. He was the third of five sons and his father was a farmer. He went to Cambridge and spent three years there. Owing to poor financial condition of his parents, Gulliver started working as an apprentice to Mr. Bates, a London based surgeon.
