Ed James is a Biosyn spy who was hired by Lewis Dodgson to follow around the survivors of Isla Nublar in order to get (more) information about Site B, being paid $500 a day. He apparently did not enjoy his job very much, and found it not worth his payment. During his work, he quickly grew a clear five-o'clock-shadow. He hated following scientists around, because he thought that it was very boring. For example, in the second novel it is revealed that he once went to one of Dr. Ellie Sattler's speeches about prehistoric pollens and the Campanian-Maastrichtian Boundary. He had been bored to death by this experience. He is shown to be very afraid of Lewis Dodgson, even going so far as fearing that he will kill him. However, he later becomes reassured when he realizes that George Baselton is with Dodgson and can keep him at bay. Ed did not travel to Isla Sorna. Since he did not go with Dodgson's team, he survived the novel.
