Domenico Scandella, also known as Menocchio, was a miller from Montereale, Italy, who in the 16th century was tried by the Inquisition for his unorthodox religious views, and burnt at the stake for heresy in 1599.

In the sixteenth century, Menocchio, a Miller in Italy, read a few books and created a view of God and his Creation. It infuriated Roman Catholic Church. Menocchio was hauled up twice and ultimately excecuted by burning at the Stake of Heresy in 1599.
