Salim Moizuddin Abdul Ali (1896-1987) was popularly known as 'The Bird Man of india'. Professor Salim Ali was born on 12 November 1896 in Mumbai, India. He was a great ornithologist. He did extensive research on ecology and ornithology. He was a specialist on birds from India, Pakistan, Burma and Sri Lanka. He wrote several valuable books on the birds of Asiatic region on the basis of his personal observations and field studies.

He got many awards and rich accolades for his work. He was honoured by the Govt. of India with Padma Bhushan in 1958 and later Padma Vibhushan in 1976.
