The Manu Smriti is written by Bhrigu, a sage as per Dr B. R. Ambedkar during the peroid of Pushyamitra of Sangha.

It was written keeping in mind the social pressures which was exerted because of the rise of Buddhism. It was the first ever book written on the subject of law in the world. It dealt with social as well as moral conduct of a human.

This Sanskrit texts was later translated into English in the year 1794, by Sir William Jones. It was later used by the British colonial Government to create the Hindu law.
