Christianity was first introduced to Kerala by St. Thomas, one of the disciples of Jesus, according to popular tradition. The St. Thomas Christians were the first to convert from Hinduism to Christianity in India. Notice that Christianity has a significant following in Kerala and southern Tamil Nadu. Also, the people from the northeast were converted as they never had a religion anyway, only animism. The religion never did have any great presence in India as the British never tried hard enough to convert Indians, or perhaps it's because we were strong and attached better to Hinduism and Islamic teachings.
