Suhungmung was the first Ahom king to adopt a Hindu name in addition to his Ahom name. The Hindu name he adopted was 'Swarga Narayan'. He and his successors later came on to be called Swargadeo or the Lord of Heaven in Assamese. His reign was important in the history of Assam because he broke away from the old traditional Ahom rule to establish a multi-ethnic political organization to his kingdom.

Syuhummung (1497-1539) was the first Ahom king to adopt a Hindu name or title Swarganarayan in addition to Ahom name.
The Ahom dynasty ruled in Asaam or brahaputa valley in medieval period. They had their own tradition and religion. They believed in supernatural powers and infinite powers of God. But with the passage of time Hinduism entered into their Court through Brahman nobles and in this way it slowly lead to Hinduisation of Ahoms. The Ahoms were later completely hinduised and began to practice as well as patronize it.
