Laozi (Lao Tzu), the founder of Taoism(Daoism), was born sometime between 600 & 300 BCE in the southern feudal state of Chu, and given the birth-name of Li Erh. As an adult, he held a minor government post as a librarian: a keeper of the archives at the Zhou Court.
