acharya chanakya was guru of ashoka. Acharya chanakya died when asoka was 20 years old in 283 bc. And asoka was born in 304 bc. And after his death asoka was always supported by chanakya's disciple Radhagupta (and also by most of the ministers of bindusara). chanakya knew if YUVRAJ SUSHEEM becomes next samrat then the whole united bharat would have been devided into small parts. so before dieng ( by starving) in forest, he told radhagupta to support asoka to become the samrat. The takshila revolt was suppressed by asoka in his teenage even without any war (which is also almost impossible without a great mentor like chanakya).
