Tipu sultan was born on 20 November 1750 . He was also known as the tipu sahab or tiger of Mysore was a ruler of the kingdom of Mysore and a pioneer of rocket artillery. He was the eldest son of sultan Hyder Ali of Mysore.

TIPU SULTAN WAS THE SON OF HYDER ALI. HE CONTINUED THE SECOND ANGLO-MYSORE WAR (1780-84) AFTER THE DEATH OF HIS FATHER. TIPU SULTAN, ALLIED WITH THE FRENCH AND INVADED THE NEARBY STATE TRAVANCORE IN 1789, WHICH WAS THE BRITISH ALLY. THE BRITISH WERE ALREADY LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE TO CRUSH TIPU'S POWER. HENCE A WAR STARTED BETWEEN THE TWO, RESULTING IN THE DEFEAT OF TIPU SULTAN. THE WAR ENDED AFTER THE SIEGE OF SRIRANGAPATTNAM IN 1792. TIPU WAS FORCED TO SIGN THE TREATY OF SRIRANGAPATTNAM. MYSORE HAD TO HAND OVER HALF OF ITS TERRITORY TO THE BRITISH ALONG WITH TIPU'S TWO SONS AS WAR HOSTAGES........
