Mansabdars:

  • Under mansabdari system, different numbers that can be divided by 10 were used for rank officers.
  • During Akbar’s reign, the lowest number of mansab was ten and the highest was that of the ten thousand. However, later on the highest number of mansabs became twelve thousand.
  • The 'mansabdars were paid' their salaries in cash as far as possible during the reign of Akbar.
  • However, sometimes they were paid by assignments of land revenue. The mansabdars drew a very handsome salary which was paid to them twice a year.
