Soviet was the name used for several organizations in Russia.
Soviet came up in 1905 after a textile strike. It was headed by a Bolshevik. However,soon the major leaders were arrested and imprisoned. But the soviet again came back in 1917 and and overthrew Nicholas II. Soviets tried to establish a socialist society in Russia.
