Gomasthas were paid servants hired by the government to supervise weavers, collect supplies and examine the quality of cloth.
The weavers would have oftn clashes with gomasthas due to following reasons : -
1) The gomasthas were outsiders & had no social link with villages.
2) They were arrogant.
3) They punished weavers for delay in supply.
4) The weavers could not sell their cloth to other buyers becuse they had to sell to the company due to the loans they took from them.
5) They had to accept the price offered by the company to them, although it was very low.
