5x + (180° - y) = 90° [ In Right angled triangle, sum of other two angles is 90° ]

Substitute y = 180° - 4x in the above equation.

5x + [180° - (180° - 4x)] = 90°

5x + [180° - 180° + 4x] = 90°

5x + 4x = 90°

9x = 90°

==> x = 10°

==> y = 180° - 4x

= 180° - (4x10°)

= 180° - 40°

==> y = 140°
