Alexander defeated Porus in the Battle of Hydaspes in 326BC. But, he was impressed by the courage and valour shown by Porus in the battle and so he asked Porus how he would like to be treated after the defeat. ... Then, Alexander allowed him to retain his territory under the overall sovereignity of Alexander.
