Basically Negroes worked as plantation workers.
Their working conditions was not at all proper. They had to live in unhygienic places and were given low wages. Moreover, when they were taken to plantation estates in big ships where 100-500 people packed in one room, in unhygienic conditions and a fear of spread of a number of diseases.
