Buffer solution is the solution of weak base with strong electrolyte of weak acif with strong electrolyte . It Resist the change of pH

For example

Acidic buffer ..
CH3COOH → CH3COO- + H+

CH3COONa → CH3COO- + Na+

pH = p^ka + log[salt]/[Acid]

in this case .. common ion effect also take place

Another example ...

Basic buffer

NH4Cl → NH4+ + Cl-

NaCl → Na+ + Cl-

pH = p^ka + log[Salt]/[Base]
