The main reason for refining petroleum is to convert crude oil into more lighter by products which have a higher value than crude oil. The refining process produces more useful by-products such as petroleum, naphtha, gasoline, liquefied petroleum gas, kerosene which have a higher utility and market demand than crude oil.
