earth itself is a huge magnet. magnet has two poles-south and north.when magnet is suspended freely it stops at north south direction

north poles has negative charge and south pole has positive charge therefore electrons flow from positive to negative charge.so magnet indicates north direction

earth is a huge itself.earth had 4 directions north,south,east and west.if we will direct the bar magnet to the south ,it will immediately jump and move to the south or North direction
