Hi there,

AC is required to measure the earth resistance because earth is basically electric in nature. It is tested with the help of resistance tester because When you are standing on it, the earth uses the body as a conductor and there are chances that you would catch current.

AC current is passed through metal conductor electrodes to provide it with a path to travel so that it uses that alternate route.
