During rotation we speak about rotational torque. When we apply force at the outer edges the torque will maximum as we know torque is the cross product of perpendicular distance on which force is acting from axis with the force applied. since distance is maximum at outer edges the torque will be maxium and it is easy to do work which is closing or opening the door...
