Antacid is a base which neutralize excess of acid in the stomach. During digestion of food stomach secretes hydrochloric acid. Sometimes there is hyperacidity due to excess secretions of hydrochloric acid. Sodium bicarbonate and metal hydroxide of magnesium and aluminum are used as antacids which neutralizes the excess of acid secreted. This chemical control the symptom not the cause.
