dust will be attracted to surfaces that have some static charge to them. Usually the very act of wiping off the surface with a cloth can charge it. The funny thing is that you wiped it off because it was dusty, which can attract more dust, which means you wipe it off more often, etc., etc. Some furniture polishes contain ingredients specifically to fight static charge for this reason.

Using a cleaner or a damp cloth will help, because moisture helps to reduce the tendency of things to attract a static charge. That is one reason you get your finger zapped more often in the winter than in the summer - the higher humidity in the air keeps the static charge down in the summer.

Also, it can be an optical illusion that more dust is attracted to mirrors and polished things. It may actually be uniform over the whole area, but it seems to be more because it is more visible on the shiny surface.

It might make an interesting science experiment to have several surfaces in the same area, with a mix of shiny and matte finishes but ground some of them so they aren't charged, and see how much dust collects.
