Yes a,e,I,o,u are alphabets but alphabets are further classifies into consonents and vowels.

They are classified for better understanding and especially for children to know the sounds made by each alphabet. Vowels are easy to pronounce as you don't need to stress much on the letter and consonants are harder to pronounce for kids. So they are classified
