Why agriculture is major occupation in northern plains?

I dont know very but the reason that in Northern plains there are rivers which is main foctor for the agriculture & most area of northern plains is covered with alluvial soil which is fertile soil & suitable for agriculture. The climate is also the main factor which us suitable fo agriculture.
