Your answer can be given by a simple experiment :
Take a stone tie it to the rope last end . Now start giving a force to it in circular motion. It will not colide to you but start moving around you.
Same way sun exerts a gravitational force on all planets but in the circular motion, that's why planets doesn't collide to it but start moving around it in a circular orbit.

All the planets are pulled towards the Sun by Gravitational Force.
Along with it this force, a Centripetal Force also acts on these
planets which causes to produce a circular motion in the planets.
