Answer:

alloys have high resistivity and high melting point as compared to pure metals. So alloys cannot easily burn or oxidize at higher temperature. Now as we want higher temperature in heating devices so we use alloys in heating devices.

Alloys are used in heating devices because:

  • Alloys are made up of a composition of different types of metals.

So, they usually have a high melting point which is a requirement in heating devices.

  • Alloys have high resistance.

We know that:

H = I²Rt

⇒ H ∝ R

So, as the resistance increases, the amount of heat produced in the heat-producing equipment also increases.

If pure metals were used in heating devices;

  • They would get easily oxidized
  • They do not have the capacity to withstand heat
