Explanation:

Europe was in initial stage of industrial Revolution. The demand for cotton grew and with that the demand for labour in the plantations in south of the US also increased. The cotton plantation was based on the practice of slavery, without which the economy would not run. Hence the southern state were in favour of slavery and wanted to spread in further. However, the northern states wanted to abolish the slave trade.

The northern states began the anti-slavery movement. This threatened the southern states as their cotton plantation economy was based largely on these slaves. So the American Civil War fought.

Effects of Civil war-

The federalists were about restoring the Union after the Civil War was over. They started the process of repealing the acts of secession, and also accepted them as part of the Union.
