In the process of asexual reproduction, only one parent is involved and there is no fusion of male and female gametes. As a result, the offspring produced are morphologically and genetically similar to their parents. Therefore , they are called clones. ...They usually split up or divide toreproduce.

First what is asexual reproduction :-
This is a process that takes place even involving single parent . No events like meiosis which is formation of gametes with half chromosomal number which means no fertilisation.
Now coming to your question :-
In sexual reproduction there is crossing over of chromosomes, genetic material coming from two distinct parents results in variation.
but asexual involving single parent brings no variation .
The best example can be binary fission in amoeba where a parent cell divides into two identical replica of daughter cells ,hence clones
