Democracy in recent decades has emerged as the most popular form of government. We have witnessed its global expansion. The following events can be attributed to the spread of democracy:
a. Decolonisation- There have been global events that have accelerated the process of spread of democracy. We may give example of the process of decolonisation of colonies in Asia and Africa with many of them becoming democratic as they were fighting for values of freedom, liberty, justice, equality all embraced by democracy. For example , India.
b. 20th century also witnessed expansion of democracy to all social groups within already established democratic regimes. For example, US adopted Universal adult franchise in 1965, thus making democracy inclusive and truly representative in nature.
