Before the arrival of Britishers,India landmarkss was covered with vast areas of dense forest. But the britishers had main objective of exploiting natural reasoures from india to enrich themselves.
Reason for starting plantation industry are as follow:-
1) Considered forest as unproductive.
2) To enhance revenue of British government.
3) Growing need of commodities in European countries.
4) To control the misise of forest by the local people as in shifting cultivation.
To start plantation industry government gave vast areas of forest to contractors ans European planters at cheap rate.
These European planter started recklessly felling of trees to make way for tea, coffee and rubber plantations.
The british government appointed German expert Dietrich Brand is as first inspector General of forest .He recommed formation of rules and regulation of Forest Managment and helped formulate Indai Forest Act ,1865.Scientist forestry was introduced when forest was cleared for plantation.
