why are algae green why

The "green algae" is a paraphyletic group because it excludes the Plantae. Like the plants, the green algaecontain two forms of chlorophyll, which they use to capture light energy to fuel the manufacture of sugars, but unlike plants they are primarily aquatic.

bcoz of prescence of chlorophyll as they have to make their own food using sunlight

jolly13: due to chloroplast and pigment carotene its light green in colour. Its cell wall contain cellulose and store starch.
