Why are alkali metals used as reducing agents?​

Alkali metals have only 1 electron in their outermost shell. So their tendency to lose or share that electron is very high. So they react with other elements and lose their electron. The corresponding element accept that electron and undergoes reduction. Thus alkali metals act as reducing agent.
