Actually this phenomenon is due to a property of light i.e Dopler Effect.
Which simply states that due to relative motion b/w the source and the observer the frequency of sound that detected by the observer is changed.
As our galaxies are moving away from each other, the frequency of light emitted by the stars in the galaxy gets shifted to the red region. Due to it we get a redish view of distant galaxies.
