Why are anhydrides more reactive than acids in acidic medium?

Acid halides and acid anhydrides are polar compounds and have physical properties that resemble those of structurally similar carbonyl derivatives of similar molecular weight. Esters are polar molecules, but they cannot form intermolecular hydrogen bonds like carboxylic acids do.
