Common cold and flu are caused by viruses. Since viral diseases cannot be cured, antibiotics are not effective against them.

Antibiotics contain antitoxins against and weakened bacteria and fungi only and not viruses.

Antibiotics are not effective against common cold and flu as these are caused by viruses . And the viruses don't have cells but lives in the cells of living beings. And the working mechanism of the antibiotic is to break cell wall and attack on bacteria .
