Arteries carry oxygenated blood under high pressure and id they'll not be thick walled and narrow then they'll blast (boom) and it'll affect the supply of O2 to various parts of body

they are thick walled and elastic because they need to face the high pressure of blood coming from the heart

arteries have thick wall because the blood inside them rushes in a great pressure and because of the high pressure it could break the wall that's why the outer walls of the arteries are thick and Elastic and hence it is present deep inside the body I hope you should find...it help full
