Why are breathing rate of aquatic animals is much faster than the terrestrial animals?

the oxygen content of water is less then air. so in one inhalation the amount of oxygen taken in isnt sufficient for aquatic dwellers. so the have developed faster breathing rate to compensate less oxygen level of water.

<b>Terrestrial animals can breathe the oxygen in the atmosphere, but animals that live in water need to use the oxygen dissolved in water. The amount of dissolved oxygen in water is fairly low compared to the amount of oxygen in the air. So the rate of breathing in aquatic organisms is much than faster than Terristrial animals.
